I’ve biked to school. I’ve driven to school. Six miles one-way, no big deal. But there are differences between the two.
Visual Language
Two years ago, I took a graphic design class where I learned how to use Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign to create images, vectors, and documents. It was a great class which introduced me to the concepts of good and bad design.
And I haven’t been able to stop being conscious about design ever since.
Automation Woes
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with automating things on the computer. I’ve been trying to use the mouse less in favor of the keyboard. There’s only a small number of keys to press compared to the number of pixels on the screen that I must navigate with a mouse cursor, which makes keyboard strokes much faster than pointing and clicking around.
Neutering
I don’t have a dog. I’ve never had pets in my house. My mother never wanted the house to have any pets. “I’m already taking care of three kids and a house. I don’t need more things to take care of.”
Living Inside My Head
I’m not a social guy. To an extent, at least.
So when I see someone on one of the popular social media sites, I wonder what’s going on mentally.
Brain and Brawn
When I was little, I told myself that I wouldn’t bother trying to be all buff and worry about exercising all of the time. I wasn’t the most athletic kid around, and I thought that being strong with my brain was better than being strong with my body.
Words and Marks Matter
Whenever you come across some text, notice the details. The details matter.
Computer Cultures
I’m interested in the cultures associated with computers. That might not mean much, though, since computers are essentially everywhere in society. Nonetheless, there are several cultures that I am interested in.
Scars
I was walking home the other day and I found this beat-up quarter on the road.
It reminded me of scars, and how they shape and define us.
A New Beginning
Here’s to a new blog, and a new domain for me to post my work. I hope you find this place more appealing than the last (if you’re familiar with my past blog on Xanga). It should be more readable and contain higher quality writing.
